Use Sketch a Roof when you need to draw the structures yourself. Draw every structure first, set building scale and pitch, resolve validation, choose Send to Instant Report, and then upload any CAD/source files in Instant Report after the sketch handoff if needed.
When To Use Sketch a Roof
Use Sketch a Roof when you do not have a supported Hover or EagleView file, or when your file does not include enough roof information for a reliable report. Open the Sketch app, draw each structure you want included, set scale and pitch, and resolve validation before handoff. After you send the sketch to Instant Report, upload any CAD/source files there if needed.
- Draw your structures in Sketch a Roof before uploading additional CAD/source files in Instant Report.
- Use Send to Instant Report after validation passes to continue report generation with the completed sketch.
- Scale is building-specific. Set scale for each building that has roof geometry.
- Reference images are tracing aids and are also building-specific.
- Roof levels help represent overlapping planes within one structure, such as upper roof areas over lower roof areas.
- Validation helps you find missing scale, missing pitch, unknown edges, open endpoints, geometry problems, and slope direction questions before handoff.
Example
If Building 1 is traced from a blueprint and Building 2 is drawn from a separate garage image, set scale for each building in Sketch a Roof. Once the buildings with roof geometry pass validation, choose Send to Instant Report. After the handoff, upload any CAD/source files in Instant Report if you need them for the report workflow.
Where To Change It
Open Sketch a Roof, add or select a building, set scale from a known length, draw roof facets, choose edge types, assign pitch, and resolve validation. When everything is ready, choose Send to Instant Report. In Instant Report, upload any CAD/source files after the sketch handoff if needed.
