Material Order Math

Panel Cut LF and Panel Waste

Panel Cut LF totals the generated panel lengths, and Waste Per Panel adds extra length to every panel before material totals are calculated.

Short answer

Panel Cut LF is the total length of the panels the report creates for the roof. Waste Per Panel adds a fixed extra amount to each panel so the order better matches real cutting, handling, and trimming needs.

When To Review This

Use this guide when you are comparing panel profiles, checking why panel quantities changed, or setting the extra material you want added to each panel.

  • Panel coverage is calculated from panel coil width minus seam material use, so changing coil width or seam settings can change the panel layout.
  • Changing panel coverage can change panel count, panel lengths, and Panel Cut LF.
  • Waste Per Panel is added to each panel length, not as one project-wide percentage.
  • Panel Cut LF and roof SF are related, but they answer different questions: one is panel length, the other is roof surface area.

Example

If a roof facet has 30 panels and Waste Per Panel is set to 4 inches, the order adds 4 inches to each panel. Across 30 panels, that totals 120 inches, or 10 feet, of panel material for that facet before the rest of your template formula is applied.

Where To Change It

Open Material Config in Instant Report. Review Panel Coil Width, Seam Height, custom seam allowance when enabled, calculated Panel Width, and Waste Per Panel. Recalculate the saved report if you change these settings after generation.
